Bill Harper

A Life of Creating Art & Inspiring Artists

Bill Harper is a prolific artist and master teacher. His work is eclectic and adventurous and encompasses styles of cartooning, puppetry, and sculpture in addition to traditional works using oil, opaque watercolor, collage, silkscreen, tempera, charcoal and ink.

During his time in the Army, Bill was stationed with the Tenth Division, 29th Regiment in Germany. Working as a Service Club Artist he created a Mural of St. Michael’s Church on the wall of the Bamberg post commissary. For this work, Bill was profiled in the military newspaper The Stars and Stripes.

A man of faith as well as creativity, Bill has created calendars and designed programs for anniversary masses and celebrations for St. Agnes Cathedral, Our Holy Redeemer Church, St. Ladislaus Church, The Ministry for Catholics of African Ancestry and the Diocese of Rockville Center.

Bill passed on his gifts through teaching art for more than thirty years. He has inspired adults and children while working for the NYC Board of Education at Wadleigh Junior High, Bryant High School and at The Susan B. Anthony School (as Head of the Art Department). Bill has taught aspiring artists at the Westbury juvenile detention center. His students have gone on to win awards and create art for world-famous companies.

Bill’s own work has been exhibited at The Freeport Recreation Center (Council for the Arts) and several times at Sotheby’s Teacher Education Conferences. His cartoons have been published in Punchline (Puppet Guild of Long Island), and his illustrations have been seen in the books Reflections, and In Other Words by Constance Anderson Lynch. Bill has studied a variety of art techniques at Marywood University and is a proud graduate of Arizona State University.
